Our Establishment
In 2024, Gudumale Sustainability Initiative (GSI) was founded with a mission to promote sustainability at both the local and national levels in Ethiopia. The organization was officially recognized by the government in 2025 and has since been making significant strides in the field of sustainability. What is GSI?
Gudumale Sustainability Initiative, known as GSI, is a youth-led non-profit and non-governmental organization that is dedicated to promoting sustainability in Ethiopia. The name “Gudumale” holds special significance as it means a green and wider place filled with big trees in Sidaamu Afoo, which is the Sidama Ethnic Language. Additionally, Gudumale is seen as a place of gathering for elders, women, and youth to discuss and solve community issues.

Our Local and National Coverage
At the grassroots level, GSI implements various initiatives within local communities to address specific sustainability issues in Hawassa City and rural areas of Sidama Region State .These initiatives may include tree-planting drives, lake side clean-ups, recycling campaigns, or water conservation projects. By engaging directly with local residents, GSI can tailor its programs to meet the unique needs and challenges of each community.
On a broader scale, GSI’s advocacy efforts extend to the national level, where the organization works to influence policy decisions and promote sustainable practices on a larger platform.
