Clean-Up at Burkitu Water Spring
Hawassa, October 3, 2026 — Gudumale Sustainability Initiative, in collaboration with community members and local partners, conducted a clean-up activity at Burkitu Water Spring near Hawassa.

Shared Responsibility!
The activity focused on removing waste from the spring surroundings and increasing community awareness about responsible waste disposal and the protection of local water sources. Participants worked together to improve the cleanliness of the area and promote shared responsibility for environmental protection.




Burkitu Hot Spring
Burkitu is a recognized hot-spring destination located southeast of Hawassa, and local people use the site for cultural, recreational, and traditional purposes. Protecting the area requires regular community participation, responsible visitor behavior, and cooperation among local authorities, communities, and environmental organizations.
The clean-up activity is part of GSI’s programme on Pollution Prevention, which promotes community-led action to reduce waste, protect water sources, and strengthen environmental health.
